There have been rumors floating around for a few months now, and it’s been no secret that owner Ken Allen has been trying to sell his Anderson Valley Brewery for several years. According to the North Bay Business Journal, it looks like a sale is now official. The terms have not been disclosed, but pending the necessary approvals, a sale is expected to close next month. The buyer is HMB Holdings LLC, a company created for the purchase by Trey White, a former VP with United States Beverage. In addition to the USB portfolio, White has also worked with such brands as Goose Island, SLO and Grolsch. Anderson Valley will continue to be brewed at its present facilities in Boonville, California.

Clicking the link to the USB site made me shudder. Anderson Valley beers will now be along side those of Spanish Peaks, Tiger, and Estrella Damm.

Will Anderson Valley return to their former status or fade into irrelevance…

And what about the Festival?

Sounds more like bad news than good.

I didn’t know AV Brewery was on the block, but you could tell their hearts haven’t been in for the last few years.

Would be nice to have some passion behind it rather than to keep it on bland autopilot.

Its a pretty significant culture shift to go from beer marketing in Stamford, CT to an iconic Northwest startup-to-regional brewery. Hopefully, the new owners are taking on the brewery because they’re looking for the authentic craft brew business segment. Personally, I believe the fate and maintenance of the frisbee golf course may be a particularly telling signal of what the new owners are planning to do…

@Ethan

If you had noticed that the quality of the brews had been down for a few years then it is absolutely a good thing that they are selling! That is great news maybe they will get an owner, or at least an operating partner that cares enough to make a good beer.

This is Trey. I used to work for US Beverage, I no longer do, so the AVBC brands will have no association with the USB brands (although they have some nice imports).

Putting as much passion an energy behind the AVBC brands will be one of our primary goals, thx.

Trey,
Congrats on your purchase of Anderson Valley. Please review our web site attached and if you happen to attend the Craft Brewers Trade Show, please visit our booth as I’m sure we can help you with your labelings needs. We do print labels for more breweries in North America than any other printer.
Regards,
Eric Haug

My craft beer epiphany can be traced to a trip to Anderson Valley Brewing about three years ago. Good luck Trey, and take good care of the place!
