For a long while Europe has led the world in beer consumption by continent and also by nation since the EU has increased in economic prominence as a single entity. According to new data by Credit Suisse, China now leads the world in terms of beer consumption, growing at a pace of about 10% per year. The Economist has more details in All Pints East.

I wonder how much of the beer consumed in China is domestic and how much of it is imported. I don’t really see China drinking much American craft beer. I would be interested to see more in-depth statistics that break down the beer consumption into corporate and craft and then by style. That would be an interesting study. Wonder which country consumes the most craft beer?

Dear Editors at The Economist:

Your chart regarding beer consumption really pisses us off.

That’s hilarious, nice catch. I don’t think I even noticed, I was so focused on the EU and China.
