Pizza Port’s Welcome Back Wipeout IPA was chosen best in show at the 10th annual Double IPA Festival today at the Bistro in Hayward, California. That’s the second year in a row that a Pizza Port beer has won. The full winner list is below.
- 1st Place: Welcome Back Wipeout IPA, Pizza Port Brewing
- 2nd Place: HopSauce, Rubicon Brewing
- 3rd Place: II Max Imperial IPA, Triple Rock Brewing
- People’s Choice Award: Russian River Pliny the Younger

My personal judgment for best newcomer was Kern River Brewing. I foolishly skipped the Rubicon because their bottled IPA isn’t my thing, wished now I had tasted. The Hop Crisis from 21A I also missed, thinking it would last awhile. Did get my Pliny the Younger (since I knew to start there) and then maxed out on the Pizza Ports and the Triple Rock. Very strong line-up this year and the weather was cooool for a change.
