As I said on my own blog, if only there was such speculation! I'd take a certain pride in seeing a British regional brewer beat A-B to the post. Having said that, neither Fullers nor Wells & Youngs have shown much deference to tradition in recent years. One thing that has always tickled me is that Vaux of Sunderland - which used to brew close to my home and gave me my first job at age 17 - used to own the Liefmans brewery in Belgium. An odd pairing if ever I saw one - a solid and traditional cask ale brewer from the North East of England and a pretty Belgian brewery specialising in fruit beer! Cheers! My reading of the relevant paragraph is that those two are only mentioned to illustrate that the price quoted for Budvar may not be realistic.
