Our 105th Guinness ad is from the Illustrated London News, from early 1945, during World War II. It shows two navy men painting, or possibly just cleaning, an impossibly huge aircraft carrier. One turns to the other and says. “I feel like a Guinness,” to which the other replies. “I wish you were!”

Could this be the only Guinness ad that doesn’t have a Guinness beer can or bottle in it?
Cheers………………..JD
The artist blew it – the brushes are right for cleaning (paint would be sprayed on & done in drydock), but the color scheme is wrong for cleaning, not to mention that most of the stuff needing to be cleaned off is below the waterline (sea movement keeps the sides clean of stuff; floating stuff mostly causes paint abrasions). The ad would have been more accurate from a naval standpoint if the 2 gents were swabbing a deck. (but there’s no accounting for a captain/admiral’s vanity nor for a lower ranking boss’ discipline routine – what those guys are doing came from a STUPID order).
Anyone have an idea where I might find a poster of this. It is my favorite Guinness ad. First saw at Shenanigan’s in Ocean City MD. It just strikes me and I would love to have it in my house. Thanks if you have any suggestions!
