An interesting note that I came across on another blog just thought I'd pass it along. Linda Murphy is actually not the Wine Editor for the Chronicle anymore. She actually departed the newspaper earlier this year to work for Jancis Robinson.

Aloha from Hawaii:

I agree with everything in the article with one exception. Although the Bay area is one of the most incredibly enlightened areas when it comes to craft beers and some claim it is the birthplace of the craft industry, I don't think that it can be claimed that it is second to Portland, Oregon when it comes to craft brewing. I think the number two town for craft brewing is Seattle, Washington. Though better known for it ubiquitous coffe shops on every corner, Seattle has a vibrant pub culture that some would argue rivals even that of Portland. Hale, Pacific Maritime, Red Hook and Pyramid are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to craft or microbreweries. I love the Bay area and visit it regularly, going on road trips from Gilroy to Fort Bragg to taste the beers of the Bay but I would have to place it third to the two northwestern cities of portland and Seattle.
