i spent years at redhook as the test or pilot brewer and worked with many varied rye ale recepies.
the 100% rye that we experimented with was very sludgelike and was deemed not worthy of developing any further.

Wow, very interesting to use all rye for a hopped beer. As a matter of fact, the secondary meaning of beer recently is more like "any fermented alcoholic drink with hops". Would like to try it.

I just met Rich last night; he and Peter were touring through Portland, OR bars and stopped at the Green Dragon. He and I spoke about the trials they went through to get this beer tested, then made. I've been inspired! I'll be homebrewing my own Roggenbier, starting with a 30% rye bill, on my way to 100%, sloooooowly but surely!

Okay, I see now the Hop Rod Rye is a different product. I'll have to get out West and make a pilgrimage to try the pure Rye version.

I found this beer labeled as Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye at the Mellow Mushroom bar in Charlottesville Va. There are other Mellow Mushrooms in Richmond Va. and elsewhere I'm told, so maybe more people can get a taste. It's my new favorite, tastes like the hardy big brother of Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA, my previous fave.

Is there ANY way this beer will ever find itself bottled? I’m a huge fan of rye beers and would trade my pinky toe for the chance to try this one.

Tipperary. It's in Ireland. Dwan's was Irish, not British.
It's bad enough that our live breweries keep on closing without you taking away our dead ones as well...
