Saturday’s ad is for bier ist etwas Gutes, or “Beer is Something Good,” from 1954. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This is part of a series of posters promoting beer by the German Brewers Association in the mid-20th century, though I’m not sure it was originally created for the German Brewers Association, it appears they may have also used the poster in their own advertising efforts. It was created by Swiss artist Celestino Piatti.
Images online tend to have either a darker background or a lighter one, as seen below, and it’s unclear if there were two different versions of the poster or if it’s just the way it was scanned or photographed.
