Tuesday’s ad is a bit of a temporary departure from the May theme of Italian brewery posters, because this is my 3000th Beer in Ads post, and I wanted to do something special. This ad is from 1957. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’m not sure exactly what this poster was advertising, although it may have been part of the efforts of the Swiss Brewery Association, which was creating advertising promoting beer in general during this time period. The poster was created by Peter Birkhäuser, who “was a Swiss poster artist, portraitist, and visionary painter, noted for his paintings illustrating imagery from dreams in the context of analytical psychology.”
