Monday’s ad is for “Rainier Beer,” from maybe the 1950s. This ad was made for the Seattle Brewing & Malting Co., who made Rainier Beer, and was later known as the Rainier Brewing Company of Seattle, Washington. This one is, I think, a reproduction of an older ad for a sign, made to look distressed. I can’t tell if the fisherman is offering a beer to the fish, or if he’s taunting him with it.

Today is the 53rd birthday of Pete Brown, author of Shakespeare’s Pub and Hops and Glory, and much else. Pete was also the winner of the UK Beer Writer of the Year in 2010. I had a chance to meet and spend some time with Pete before and at GBBF in 2009. He’s a kindred spirit, especially when it comes to neo-prohibitionist shenanigans, and writes one of the most engaging beer blogs out there. Join me in wishing Pete a very happy birthday.
