Beer In Ads #281: Goebel’s Midsummer Day’s Dream

January 4, 2011 By Jay Brooks

ad-billboard
Tuesday’s ad for Detroit’s Goebel beer is presumably meant for the summer, despite showing a winter scene. The “Midsummer Day’s Dream” slogan is the dream apparently brought about drinking a cold brew. Drink Goebels and you’ll be transported to a winter wonderland. Better bring a coat.

A Coors Light ad — about 70 years before they thought of it.

    @ Mr. Nuts-
Of course, Coors, being located in Colorado, used mountain and winter imagery for quite some time, too- here’s one from 40 years ago – http://gono.com/adart/new/view_pic_new.php?cat_id=6&name=Coors&type=E&adid=75502 So did a lot of urban Eastern brewers, too, for that matter.

Hey, Jess. Thanks for that link. Just bookmarked it as I love old ads.

And, yes, a lot of the some concepts to sell beer have been recycled for decades. Purest water, choicest hops, etc. Some of the text on Crowntainers from the 30’s read as if they were written today.
