Wednesday’s ad is for Amstel Bier, from the 1940s, although at least once source says the 1960s. From the late 1800s until the 1940s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for the Amstelbrouwerij, or Amstel Brewery, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was founded in 1870. Heineken bought the brewery in 1968, and closed their facility in 1982. I don’t know who the artist was, but I think he or she was going for Marilyn Monroe or Kim Novak.
