Monday’s ad is for Bière Moritz, from who knows when. At least one source claimed it was from between 1890 and 1900, but the prominent listing of as telephone number seems to belie that, and makes it more likely it was after 1930. From the late 1800s until the 1980s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’ve been posting vintage European posters all last year and will continue to do so in 2020. This poster was created for Moritz, which is located in Barcelona, Spain, which is a city on the coast of northeastern Spain. It is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia, as well as the second-most populous municipality of Spain. It was founded in 1856, closed in 1978, but was reopened in 2004 by the founder’s family. I don’t know who the artist is who created this poster, although it appears to be signed in the lower-left corner “Collombar.”
