Friday’s ad is for Carling Black Label, from 1962. The ad is pretty simple, and I assume I may be missing part of it since there’s no text at all. But the photo is just a red-headed woman wearing all red, with red nail polish, holding a glass of Carling Black Label while looking longingly at the camera. Red for Black Label. Who’s thirsty?
It’s Mabel, of course.
Forgive the intrusion, may I ask if you are related to George M Ahrens – death in San francisco 1928 – who was involved in a brewery and bottling factory in the Bay Area ?
Best,
Ann Ahrenss
Hello,
Yes, George M Ahrens was my great grandfather . I have a family history and a picture of him.
I’d be happy to be in communication with you.

The Carling label, if I remember correctly, was black in the center, w/a red border – the text was white. But maybe that was an ad for their Red Cap ale (which was far better than their beer, but I haven’t seen it in the US in over 30 years – it may still be available in Canada).
