Monday’s ad is for Budweiser and I suspect it’s from the late 1960s or 70s, when the big breweries seemed to finally discover that not everybody was white. They’re still using the “Where There’s Bud … There’s Life” campaign. Also, check out the clasp on the back of the jeans worn by the man on the left. Does anybody remember jeans like that? I’m not exactly a fashion maven, but I don’t remember that particular trend. Do you?

I remember those. Didn’t have any. Honest! They didn’t last long. Also remember the shirts that had loops on the back just under the yokes. In high school we called them s**t hooks. We were so cool back then.

I’m a couple yrs younger than my good buddy Alec, but I also remember those jeans – I think the clasp may have been part of a mini-belt that crossed the ass.
Regarding the shirt loops – we in Montgomery Co, MD (DC suburb) called them “fruit loops” & used to yank them off – the trick was to be able to do it without tearing the rest of the shirt.
In those days, dryers were rarer in homes than today. If you look at those designs logically, the loops provide an easy way to hang-dry perma-press items with one clothespin/s-hook to retain shape w/minimal wrinkles. Most moms of the time would have had no clue, & kids never paid attention to laundry unless they had to do it themselves … what being 50K years & beers “older & wiser” does to the mind 🙂
