Today’s infographic is from Mensa, believe it or not, showing American Mensa members favorite beers. If it shows anything, it’s that Mensa members aren’t quite as smart as they think they are. It’s not that Blue Moon or Samuel Adams Boston Lager are bad beers — they’re fine, really — but their top ten also includes Heineken, Corona, But Light and Stella Artois — which aren’t. Really there’s only three beers on their list I truly like and another I think is okay, if overrated. Of course, they only gave members a list of thirty beers chosen for their popularity and brand recognition (though no word on how they determined brand recognition), so maybe that was the bit that wasn’t terribly smart.

Conversely, plenty of meatheads enjoy quality craft beer. Just read the BeerAdvocate forums some time.

Or maybe the bit that wasn’t terribly smart was where you equated “beers I don’t like” to “bad beers.” Not that you’re alone in your ignorance, but still.

Ha, point taken. Except that I didn’t, those were meant to be separate thoughts. In the third sentence I merely suggest that “Heineken, Corona, But Light and Stella Artois” are not fine beers, which is slightly different than bad. And in the next sentence I say that personally I only really like some on the list. I never equated bad beers with personal preference.

LOL at the whole thing – beer bars around the Bay Area & elsewhere are doing fine by the “meatheads”. & I’m sure Jay has many regular readers & “posters” who are Mensa-qualified, but heed the late Groucho Marx’s advice (regarding that org only) : “I would never join any organization that would accept me as a member.”
