Molecular Beer

November 11, 2008 By Jay Brooks

I stumbled upon this interesting piece of digital art by a Maury Schallock. I suppose technically it’s not art, but a computer generated molecular model of a beer molecule. But it is beautiful, and reminded me of a very colorful galaxy.

That is pretty cool-looking. However, there is no such thing as a “beer molecule” so I’m not sure what this is actually depicting. There are water molecules, ethanol molecules, cohumulone molecules, ethyl acetate molecules, etc, but no single “beer” molecule.

Still, that’s real purty. 🙂 It looks a little like a Spirograph masterpiece.

I wondered about that, too. I’d hazard a guess that it’s the ethyl alcohol, but there’s precious little information to support that.
