Beer In Ads #205: Ballantine Clown

September 29, 2010 By Jay Brooks

ad-billboard
Wednesday’s ad is an early ad for Ballantine, one of the first to use their iconic three-rings of “body,” “purity” and “flavor.” Unfortunately, it also features an ugly, frightening clown — but then I hate clowns.

Yeah, the clown’s unfortunate. Especially when the three rings story is such a cool one.

Later ads did a much better job of communicating the heritage of the rings in a more sophisticated, and effective, manner.
