From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Birra Italia, founded in Milan, Italy, in 1906. The brand was popular until the 1970s, but then all but disappeared, although it was relaunched again in 2007, still as Birra Italia. This poster was created by German painter, advertiser, illustrator, set designer and costume designer Adolfo Hohenstein, who is “considered the father of the Italian poster art and an exponent of the Stile Liberty, the Italian Art Nouveau.”
