This is pretty cool, despite the Corona bottles. According to the musician who made the video, BoTLpLayA, “[he] play[s] Carol of the Bells on perfectly tuned corona bottles (they make the best sound), by “plucking” them with [his] finger.” Hmm, not sure that makes sense, but who am I to argue with the results. Years ago at the the California State Homebrew Champion party at Anchor Brewing, the San Andreas Malts played ‘Anchors Aweigh’ by blowing across tuned Anchor bottles. Tuned and directed by Kevin Johnson it was fabulous. There were probably about a dozen of us – maybe more. How many different notes are in that song?
I’m viewing this almost 5 months later (I save BBB’s when I don’t have time to read them & sometimes forget to empty the folder). I might have been part of the Malts’ “orchestra” @ that party; for sure I was there. “KJ” & the late Rick Hendricks were the best musicians in the club & provided many hours of good music for the State Homebrew Club Com we ran @ Stern Grove for 25 yrs.
Thanx, Alec, for bringing up a “blast from the past”. To answer your question, “Carol of the Bells” has more & higher-pitched notes than “Anchors Aweigh”, plus a wider range top-bottom. KJ used Anchor bottles, which probably wouldn’t work for “Carol of the Bells”, as there wouldn’t be enough air space up top to get the higher notes without splattering water all over.
