Beer In Ads #1536: Why Holland Limits Heineken To Its Closest Allies

April 25, 2015 By Jay Brooks

Saturday’s ad is for Heineken, from 1966. This is sort of a nostalgic ad using imagery from wartime and specifically World War 2, which seems odd to me.

The funny thing, “old Dutch brewing mastery” was only 70 years old or so, when the very new lager was perfected and replaced top-fermented beers. The endless ingenuity of the ad men, it never changes..

That ad was for British audience – “license” is spelled “licence”. Further, rarely did we see Heineken ads in the US (if at all) in 1966, even tho it was widely available.
