Friday’s ad is for “Brasserie du Cardinal,” from 1953. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster was made for Brasserie du Cardinal, in Fribourg, Switzerland, which was founded in 1788 by François Piller. In 1991 (though one source says 1996), it was acquired by Feldschlösschen, which is owned by the Carlsberg Group. The poster was created by Swiss artist Pierre-Alexandre Junod.
