Friday’s ad is from 1956, and is for Falstaff and shows what appear to be the preparations for a cocktail and which, according to the wonderful ad copy, are making the people not just thirsty, but beer-thirsty!, apparently a whole new level of thirsty that only Falstaff can cure.

Falstaff “premium” – NEVER! (label was pretentious/preposterous) They sponsored CBS’ TV “Game of the Week” late 50’s-early 60’s & SF Giants radio broadcasts early on; vendors sold it @ Seals Stadium 58-9 seasons (I saw 9 games there as a kid) & maybe @ Candlestick early 60’s.
Falstaff, based in St Louis, got run over by Anheuser-Busch. My guess is that A-B’s lower-priced Busch Bavarian (the “Bavarian” part of the moniker has been gone for 25-30+ yrs) is what relegated Falstaff to cult/generic status (where it belongs).

They did have a brewery in downtown San Jose, as I recall. I used to live near the abandoned lot where it once stood.
