Thursday’s ad is for Canada’s Carling’s Red Cap Ale, from 1952. The nautical couple romantically drinking their ale — light and hearty — are “having something extra for [their] money.” And I love that slogan. “Be Light-hearted … Stay Light-hearted … drink Carling’s Red Cap Ale.” Priceless.

That’s the US-brewed Carling Red Cap Ale, from the Brewing Corporation of America, which was by then a subsidiary of Canadian Breweries Ltd (aka Carling) in Canada, and would eventually be renamed “Carling Brewing Co.” in the US.
Red Cap Ale was brewed in the US into the early 1980’s, by which time Heileman had bought the merged Carling-National. Heileman would later drop brewing the beer and instead import the Canadian-brewed version from Carling-O’Keefe.

TYVM – I’ve wondered for years about Red Cap, which I liked the US version of back in the 70’s when I lived in the MD suburbs of DC
