Beer In Ads #719: Asahi Rising Sun Crowns

October 19, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is a cool one for Asahi, from when I don’t know, but it shows an open bottle of the Japanese beer, with hundreds, possible thousands, of crowns laid out before it. Because each crown shows the Japanese rising sun symbol, it’s an impressive sight.

A comment from an informant in Japan:

“Looks like it was from 1965 – a pretty good year ;-)….Asahi still uses that bottle. They call it a ‘Steiny’ and it’s a bit shorter and has a kind of pull top cap. Kinda like a stubby but without the big mouth. There is something special about it but I can’t remember off hand. It may be like the old Coors and is unpasteurized”
