David Farnsworth, who co-founded the well-known beer bar Lucky Baldwins in Southern California, passed away yesterday. The Full Pint has the full story, and a hat tip to Dr. Bill, who gave them the news. I only met David a couple of times, but used to talk to him on the phone regularly when I was with the Celebrator full-time. He definitely did a lot for the beer scene in California and will be missed. Raise a glass of Belgian beer tonight in his memory.

Dave’s contributions to the beer culture of Southern California are immeasurable. He fought a long battle with complications from ALS. A most horrible end to a most honorable gentleman. His legacy will endure.
David Brattstrom says
I have been dreading this news for the last year after hearing of his illness. Dave was an all around great guy. Brook I don’t know how you got any information from him on the phone. I was never sure if what I was talking about and what he was talking about were the same thing. His British accent while thick was understandable in person on the phone was tough. When in SoCal I always stop in for at least one pint. Two weeks ago it was to celebrate 12 years of Lucky Baldwins and 12 years of Stone. LB is one of my 5 favorite bars in the world and he will be missed.

A wonderful, crusty, out-spoken knight of a man. A pint raised high, Dave. The Christmases spent with Mrs_Push, Shaun O’Sullivan, Sven, Mr Beechum, Mr Palmer on the patio will be forever treasured. Cheers.
