Our 112th Guinness ad is a rough draft for an ad by John Gilroy, one that I’ve never seen in its finished form. Since it shows the Brooklyn Bridge, I assume it was done when Guinness introduced draught beer to the United States, whenever that was.

It looks like draught Guinness came to America about 1975. The “Dining Out” column of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says “The brweery, founded in 1759, has come up with a new pressure-packed flat keg that makes it easy to export the beer. Draught Guinness is just beginning to enter markets in the eastern United States and the Blarney Stone is the first to stock it here.”

I own one of the original artist’s proofs for this ad and it is dated 1949 as well as other Guinness proofs for the arrival all dated 1949.
