Beer In Ads #3643: Budweiser On A Lazy Afternoon

February 18, 2021 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for “Budweiser,” from the early 1960s. This ad was made for Anheuser-Busch, and was part of their series using the tagline “this calls for Budweiser,” which ran during the 1960s, and replaced the earlier “Where there’s Bud” campaign. This one features a couple lounging in what appears to be a park, by a pond, reading and drinking a few cans of beer. The text begins “lazy afternoon….”

February 17, 2021 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is for “Budweiser,” from the early 1960s. This ad was made for Anheuser-Busch, and was part of their series using the tagline “this calls for Budweiser,” which ran during the 1960s, and replaced the earlier “Where there’s Bud” campaign. This one features two couples having a late supper of burgers and beer, presumably having just seen a movie or theatre performance. Why do I presume that? The text begins “after the show….”

Bistro Double IPA Winners 2021

February 13, 2021 By Jay Brooks

Earlier today, the 21st annual Double IPA Festival was held at the Bistro in Hayward, California. I got there early for judging again this year, and instead of being sequestered in the dark, dank basement out of the view of the beautiful Bay Area sun — which is where we usually are — we were outside in what was a beautiful, sunny, albeit a little windy, day. We judged Double IPAs in two categories — West Coast and Hazy — for most of the morning and chose our favorite six in each category, which Vic will will hand pack into a “Double IPAs Finals Case” which can be ordered online for just under one-hundred dollars. But sales will end at midnight tonight, so if you want one, now’s the time.

West Coast Double IPAs

  • 1st Place: Moksa Sticky Sips
  • 2nd Place: Docent Rabbit Habit Double IPA
  • 3rd Place: Moonraker Honorable Villain

Hazy Double IPAs

  • 1st Place: Revision Distance Haze
  • 2nd Place: North Park Beer Co. Clockwork Intelligence DDH Hazy DIPA
  • 3rd Place: Humble Sea Wizard of Fog DDH Hop Fused DIPA

Congratulations to all of the winners.

Beer In Ads #3636: Budweiser, This Calls For An Open House

February 11, 2021 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for “Budweiser,” from the early 1960s. This ad was made for Anheuser-Busch, and was part of their series using the tagline “this calls for Budweiser,” which ran during the 1960s, and replaced the earlier “Where there’s Bud” campaign. This one features an open house dinner party with one couple on the right in conversation and man in the background who’s nose deep in a glass of beer as he reads the back of an album. But my favorite is the woman in yellow who’s just putting a cracker in her mouth as she stares at the man pouring a can of beer in his glass. The text begins “open house….”
