Beer In Ads #1171: Fred MacMurray For Blatz

April 24, 2014 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for Blatz Beer, from 1951. The ad is part of Blatz’s “I lived in Milwaukee, I ought to know” series from the later Forties and Fifties that featured prominent celebrities, sports figures and famous folks from Milwaukee claiming to know “Blatz is Milwaukee’s Finest Beer” because they lived there, or near there, at some point in their lives. This one features actor Fred MacMurray, who though born in Illinois, moved to Madison, Wisconsin when he was two, later settling in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

He may have drunk that when he was a reed player in local dance bands before he went to Hollywood – ya never saw him drinking it on “My Three Sons”.
