For the last of Schlitz week, Friday’s ad is one from 1951. This one’s supposed to funny with the husband was letting his wife use a newspaper to keep it from raining on her hair and instead is holding their umbrella over the bottles of Schlitz in the bag in front of them. Oddly enough, the man with beer is holding his pipe in his mouth upside down. Is that perhaps to keep it dry?
Mike says
Yes; if the tobacco is tightly packed you can continue to smoke a dry pipe by inverting it and it won’t fall out. Which is more than I can say for the beer, considering how it’s positioned in the wet paper sack!
Mr. Nuts says
Cute ad. Nice to see beer advertising could be humorous without resorting to some stupid cheap laugh like somebody falling down or getting hit in the head with a rock.
Frankly, I think the television ads shown, particularly during football games, are targeting people who are already drunk.
