Tuesday’s ad is for Stegmaier Brewing Co., from between 1933-1945. The “Home of Gold Medal Beer” was Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. I love these grand illustrations of breweries, testaments to industrialization, this one was a postcard. I’m not sure why there’s a passenger train chugging by, maybe that’s how the brewery executives commute to and from work?
Certainly plausible for that time – Pennsylvania RR was running many trains then (one of the primary ways to get to NYC). Think Penn Station (underground, 31st-34th St btwn 7th & 8th Aves) in NYC, atop which sits Madison Square Garden. Hotel Pennsylvania is across the street (corner of 34th & 7th); my parents & I stayed there in 1965 (was the Statler then; here’s a wiki link to its history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Pennsylvania
Also – notice the siding w/the 2 boxcars (which likely had delivered bottles & other supplies).
Great ad for a presumably defunct “local”.
