Friday’s ad is for Carlsberg from 1925. It features an odd painting of a man with a beer stein holding some vegetable like turnips. I don’t know if Carlsberg adapted a known work of art for this advertisement or if it was commissioned for it.

Jay – based on the color, I’d bet that the veg is a rutabaga, an orange-colored cousin to turnips & beets. Rarely have I seen rutabagas in CA; I know of them from my days working in a DC-area grocery store 1971-78 before I moved back to CA. I’ve never eaten one, so I have no clue about flavor/best way to cook.

I have a tankard with this picture on it but the text says “Carlsberg Lager” rather than just Carlsberg. I would appreciate any info on dating for that. It would be nice to think my glass is from roughly 1925….
Thanks, S.
