    Was the “and a peaceful New Year” ending a subtle hint to Truman to vacate the Korean War? Truman didn’t, but Ike did so soon after he was elected (probably one of the last campaign promises fulfilled early in a President’s term … too bad Nixon didn’t learn from Ike & do the same w/Vietnam).
