Tuesday’s ad is for Schlitz, from the 1960s, when they debuted the “Aluminum soft top” can, which according to the ad was much easier to open than the “old hard way.” They billed it as the “world’s easiest opening beer can!” I’m not sure about their prophecy that “Some day all beer cans will open this easy!” Time seems to have passed by that innovation.

hey there Jay. actually, its from about 1960, not the 1930’s. soft tops didn’t come out until about 1960. Schlitz used a cone top style can from 1935 onward until early 50’s

And then the pop-top came along 5-6 yrs later, which meant a lot of cut feet caused by beach litterbugs until the peel-offs gave way to the “punch-in” improvement (late 70’s?) that’s still the standard.
Remember when the damned rings would break off partway thru the pull & you’d have to use pliers/whatever tool was at hand to to get the damn thing off? If the ring broke before the pop, then you still had to use the churchkey.
