Friday’s ad is for the Czech Budweiser, Budejovice, cheekily advertsing themselves as the “Imported Original Budweiser Beer.” I don’t know exactly when this ad is from, but it’s a safe bet it’s before A-B’s legal muscle was finely honed as it later became. But I do so love these old illustrations of industrial grandness.

I would guess that it’s late 1930’s, before WWII broke out, but it could have been later – once Mickey D’s starting suing every boutique called “Mc-something” for trademark infringement, all the other rectal orifice corporations followed (pardon the pun) suit.

And a great beer it is; my daughter smuggled me back one bottle when she went to Czech last year. And even with all the traveling it was a damn fine beer!!
