Beerstrology Sign: Virgo

August 23, 2011 By Jay Brooks

zodiac
While I don’t put any stock in astrology, in 1980 Guinness put out a calendar with each month representing one of the zodiac signs, and I thought it would be fun to share these throughout the year.

Virgo, the virgin or maiden, is from August 23-September 23. To learn more, see:

Guinness Ad #81: Guinness Header

August 20, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 81st Guinness features a footballer flying high above the field heading the ball as his gaping teammates and opponents look on. Presumably his prowess is due to Guinness, of course, and the tagline reads “Guinness for Strength.”

Guinness Ad #80: 5 Million Guinness

August 6, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 80th Guinness uses the tagline “5 million Guinness are enjoyed every day.” I don’t know how that compares to today, or when they hot that milestone, but it sure sounds like a lot of pints.

Guinness Ad #79: Opening Time Is Guinness Time

July 30, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 79th Guinness uses the tagline “Opening Time Is Guinness Time.” In this case, the opening refers to the oyster, with a smiling pint of Guinness resting inside. The slogan at the bottom is the common “Guinness is good for you.” My one question, is since when did oysters have eyes?

Guinness Ads #78: Lovely Day For A Guinness

July 23, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 78th Guinness is the scan of an original mock-up using the tagline “Lovely day for a Guinness.” Most likely it was meant for the time period during World War II given the military men and the Toucans flying in formation.

Guinness Ad #77: Free Kick

July 16, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 77th Guinness ad features a free kick in a soccer … er, football match that the goalie is unable to stop because it was kicked hard enough to propel both the ball and the goalie into the net for a score. The source of that force can be found sticking out of his back pocket: a bottle of Guinness.

Guinness Ad #76: Don’t Forget The Guinness

July 9, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 76th Guinness ad features the iconic toucan reminding you not to forget the Guinness, with each bird being showing mouthing each word.

Guinness Ad #75: Oyster Opening Time

July 2, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 75th Guinness ad puts oysters and Guinness together. “Opening Time is Guinness Time.” Aw, shucks. Nice pun on opening time and opening oysters. And the ad concludes with this wisdom. “Guinness and oysters are good for you.”

Guinness Ad #74: Dart For A Guinness

June 25, 2011 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 74th Guinness ad is a newer ad, and shows the iconic toucan as a dart heading straight for the bullseye. At least he managed to keep two pint glasses of Guinness balanced on his beak.
