Interesting list. Does FX Matt brew any of their own stuff? I thought they did all contract brewing? And isn’t Craft Brewers Alliance more of a distributor package then a brewery?

Yes, Matt owns and brews the Saranac brands, and I believe some other regional brands, too.

Not for a few years now. CBA was originally a distribution deal with AB, but when Widmer bought Redhook, they renamed the overall company Craft Brewers Alliance and have since bought into Kona and Goose Island, too, all under the CBA umbrella.

        F. X. Matt’s original post-Repeal flagship brand was “Utica Club”- in the 30’s, they brewed 4 different ales as well as their pilsener and a few other styles under that brand name https://sites.google.com/site/jesskidden/uticaclubales back when they were still called “West End Brewing Co.”.

The Matt’s Premium brand (originally all-malt) came around in the 1950’s and was quite big in NYS by the early ’80’s (tho’ no longer all-malt by then IIRC) but seems to have been dropped (along with the below mentioned Maximus Super) but Utica Club is still around as a local beer.

F.X. Matt brews their own stuff… I haven’t seen anything under the MATT’s label in quite some time (I was a big fan of Maximus Super). They certainly do their share of contract brewing, but these days, aren’t the beers under the SARANAC brand their own?

In my opinion, the individual breweries should be ranked, not grouped together under their consortiums like CBA or IBU.  Of course a group that owns 3-4 breweries will rank higher than one smaller breweries.
