Another Rheingold ad from this time period featuring a celebrity, this time it’s Dorothy Dandridge, an American actor and singer, and the first African-American to be nominated for an Academy Award, in this case for her performance in the 1954 film “Carmen Jones.”

As was some of Dorothy’s face airbrushed over to make her look even whiter than she really was. Like the great Lena Horne, she was a light-skinned black of mixed parentage. Beautiful lady who died 5 yrs after that ad was shot.
