Friday’s ad is for Oranjeboom, from 1945. From the late 1800s until the 1950s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Oranjeboom. It was founded in Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, in 1690, but moved to Breda in 1990. Five years later they sold to InterBrew (now ABI) who closed the brewery in 2004. The text translates as “Beers to Celebrate,” and gove that the war in Europe had just ended, I have a pretty good idea what they were so happy about. Unfortunately, I don’t know who the artist was who created this.
