Thursday’s ad is for the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei, otherwise known as DAB, from 1960, I think. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for the Dortmunder Actien Brauerei is a German brewery in the city of Dortmund, founded in 1868 by the businessmen Laurenz Fischer and Heinrich and Friedrich Mauritz together with master brewer Heinrich Herberz. Today it is owned, in part, by the Radeberger Group. The text for this ad reads “Das Bier von Weltruf, 1959 Ausstoß von 1 Mill. hl überschritten.” That translates as “The beer of world renown, 1 million hl. output exceeded in 1959.” I’m again not sure who the artist is who created this work.
