Thursday’s ad is for Amstel Beer, from perhaps the 1950s. From the late 1800s until the 1980s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’ve been posting vintage European posters all last year and will continue to do so in 2020. This one was created for Amstel Brewery, which was founded in 1870 in Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. The Heineken family bought the brewery in 1968. The text at the bottom:
Wees ‘n Man!
drink ‘n pittig glas
Amstel Bier
translates as “Be a Man! Drink a spicy glass [of] Amstel Bier.” I’m not sure who created this poster, although the model used looks an awful lot like the same one as yesterday’s Amstel poster.
