Sunday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1960s, features a generic menu cover that Genesee would offer as a promotion to restaurants or bars that served food so that the businesses could save money and the brewery could advertise their beer. This one, I think, is better looking than a lot of these I’ve seen, with the lovely fields and marching, or dancing, glasses of beer.

Friday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1970s, features poster art by an artist who signs only Cariguo, titled “The Genny Cream Jam Band.” Frankly, it looks a lot like Jack Davis, who did a lot of cartoon movies posters and worked for Mad Magazine. They look like a country band, and I love the tall Genny Cream Ale speakers on stage, and everyone seems to be having a good time.

This ad, from 1979, features a sci-fi theme, probably playing on the popularity of Star Wars, which was huge at that time. One spaceship, with a can of Genesee Cream Ale on it, along with two people looking very much like Luke and Leia from one of the original posters for Star Wars. I love that the beer can is his lightsaber.

Three spaceships, each a different can of Genesee beer, it probably made a cool poster at that time.

This ad, from the 1980s, features the title “Cream of the Crop,” and shows a couple that looks like they may be farmers, or at least gardeners, looking over their field of Genesee Cream Ale cans. I guess they planted their empties and got new, full cans to grow. That’s how brewing works, right?
Beer In Ads #2792: The More Exciting Beer
Saturday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1970s, features a barefoot woman in a gold dress unconvincingly pretending to play the guitar. It’s definitely from the Seventies, it just has that wacky 70s look, especially with the flowers and the blue border. Apparently, even the beer cans at the time read “a little more exciting ….”
