Guinness Ad #26: Lumberjack

July 10, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 26th Guinness poster by John Gilroy features a lumberjack energized by drinking his Guinness so that he’s able to fell a large tree with one fell swoop of the axe. “Guinness For Strength,” indeed.

Unfortunately this is the best image of this ad I could find. If anyone has a better one, please let me know or send it my way. There’s also a variation on the lumberjack theme, with the same artwork but a different slogan, “My Goodness, My Guinness.”

Guinness Ad #25: Have A Crab

July 3, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 25th Guinness poster by John Gilroy features a crab trying to figure out how to get hos claws around a pint of Guinness and, presumably, drink it. Perhaps that’s why the text at the bottom reads “Have this one with me!,” because he can’t do it alone.

Guinness Ad #24: When You’re Tired

June 26, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 24th Guinness poster by John Gilroy features a slow turtle with the unusual slogan “Have a Guinness When You’re Tired.” Though I suppose the idea is that a Guinness will make a turtle faster.

They’ve also used the same image with the more common “Lovely day for a Guinness.”

Guinness Ad #23: Toucans In Their Nest

June 19, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 23rd Guinness poster by John Gilroy features the toucans in their nest, but instead of eggs there are two pints of Guinness and the “Guinness is good for you” slogan followed by a bad pun: Open some today and see What one or Toucan do.” Plus it looks like a father and son pair, and Father’s Day is tomorrow.

June 12, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 22nd Guinness poster by John Gilroy features another zoo setting, this one with a new Gnu to the zoo, who knew that “Guinness is good for you,” using a nice group of homonyms.

Guinness Ad #21: Seal Hedge

June 5, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 21st Guinness poster by John Gilroy features a man trimming a hedge of a seal balancing a pint of Guinness on his nose, like had been featured in earlier Guinness adverts. But he’s paying such close attention to watching the pint, that’s he’s not watching what he’s doing with the clippers and is cutting a hole into the seal back. The slogan for this one is “Lovely day for a Guinness.”

Guinness Ad #18: Whispering Seals

May 15, 2010 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our eighteenth Guinness poster by John Gilroy is another of zoo seals using the “Lovely day for a Guinness” tagline. While looking on at two zookeepers taking a break and pouring themselves a Guinness, one of the seals is whispering something, presumably the tagline, into the ear of the other seal.
