Curiously, it was first established as a regular Navy blimp base during World War II, but during the postwar era the base became part of the Naval Air Reserve Training Command, and hosted an annual air show. With Rheingold moving into the New England market, they did a lot to promote the brand there with their advertising and promotions so likely sent Miss Rheingold to the event for that reason. What I’m most surprised about is that they didn’t use the opportunity to create an ad around it. I only discovered this photo thanks to an alum i Facebook page for people who were station at the air station, where someone posted it.
