Thursday’s ad is holiday ad for Michelob, from 1963. Their suggestion, “This year buy him a beer” seems like a good one, though in truth Michelob probably wouldn’t be the one I”d want, but maybe that’s just me. I love how they spin it in the ad copy. They refer to giving Michelob as an “unhackneyed” gift, “whether beer lover or bottle fancier.”
Here’s an oddity about Michelob. Originally, it was, & today is, sold in bottles only, but for a few years from late 60’s-early 70’s they experimented with cans. One day my dad & I did a blind taste test (w/mom being the steward) comparing Bud in bottles to Mich in cans … we couldn’t tell the diff! Mich in bottles basically was “heavier” Bud; Mich Light in those days was 130-135 cals, just a cut under the normal 150 for macrobrew – is it even around these days?
