Thursday’s holiday ad is for Schlitz, from 1955. The slogan is “Holidays call for the finer things in life,” and since I’m in my way to a fancy party tonight, this ad made the most sense. Too true.

You got Anchor Thurs nite – not that stuff (that I didn’t like in my uneducated-palate days).
I was 6 when that ad appeared; 1955 in CA, “fair trade” fixed 6-pak beer prices statewide, so Schlitz probably cost the same as Bud & Miller High Life. Who knew “quality” (at least out of a can/bottle) then; funky bar tap lines that never got flushed – ??
Fred Eckhardt’s probably the only beer geek old enough to have tasted Schlitz (legally) in 1955 (even so, had he gone on the “beer quest”?). Fred – if you’re a subscriber, please rack your brain & chime in!
