Beer In Ads #3496: Sleutel Bier, Always Welcome

October 12, 2020 By Jay Brooks

Monday’s ad is for Sleutel Bier, from around 1935. From the late 1800s until the 1970s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster was created for Brouwerij de Sleutel, which was located in Dordrecht, a city and municipality in the Western Netherlands, located in the province of South Holland. It was founded by Gherits Janssz in 1433. Heineken bought the brewery in 1953, and closed it in 1968. This poster was created by Dolly Rudeman, who is considered to be the first serious Dutch female poster-designer.
