Beer In Ads #3500: Bieren Van Haecht

October 16, 2020 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Bieren van Haecht, from perhaps the 1950s. From the late 1800s until the 1970s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster was created for Brouwerij van Haecht, which I believe was located somewhere in the Netherlands. To confuse matters, there’s also a Brasserie de Haacht in Belgium, and Google appears to keep confusing the two in searches with the “aa” and “ae” seemingly interchangeable, and yet they seem to be different breweries. And on top of that, the Belgian brewery Haacht seems to sometimes use the spelling Haecht, despite being from the town of Haacht, which is located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. So needless to say, I’m just not sure. On this sign, it’s referred to as both “Brasserie de Haecht” and “Bieren van Haecht.” I also don’t know who the artist is that created this sign.

Beer In Ads #3401: Meibier

July 4, 2020 By Jay Brooks

Saturday’s ad is for Meibier, from probably the 1950s. From the late 1800s until the 1980s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’ve been posting vintage European posters all last year and will continue to do so in 2020. This poster was created for the Bierbrouwerij De Hoop, which was located in Budel, which is a village in the Dutch province of Noord Braban. The brewery was founded in 1870 by Gerardus Arts and is still owned by the same family today, although at some point they changed the name of the brewery tot Budelse Brouwerij. I don’t know who created this poster.

Beer In Ads #3365: Among Friends We Drink Heineken

May 29, 2020 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Heineken, from maybe the 1960s. From the late 1800s until the 1980s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’ve been posting vintage European posters all last year and will continue to do so in 2020. This one was created for Heineken, which was founded as De Hooiberg in 1592 in Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. The Heineken family bought the brewery and renamed it in 1864. The text at the top, “Entre amis on boit Heineken la bière de l’élite,” Google translates as “Among friends we drink Heineken the beer of the elite.” Since it mentions being imported in the text, as well, this was undoubtedly for sales in another country, but I’m not sure which one nor do I know who created this poster.
