Wednesday’s ad is for Schlitz, again from 1947. The post-war ads shows a young couple in a suburban setting receiving a guest, but with a bag of loose beer bottles, to make sure they’re prepared for just such an event. I guess their local store was out of six-pack carriers.
Tuesday’s ad is another for Rheingold Beer, again from 1957, and features Miss Rheingold from that year, Margie McNally. The ad features her in pink, with a farm in the background, holding a sprig of wildflowers. That’s some nice-looking grass, but those buildings look a bit dilapidated. How many farms do you know of with manicured lawns?
Monday’s ad is for Rheingold Beer, from 1957, and features Miss Rheingold from that year, Margie McNally. The ad features her painting a small boat light blue, and the color seems to nearly match that of her dress. Her outfit also has white accessories, just like the boat. I think somebody was getting a bit too cute with the design. As my wife might say, it’s all too “matchy matchy.”
Friday’s ad is still another one for Rheingold Beer, from 1958, and features Miss Rheingold from that year, Madelyn Darrow. This time Miss Rheingold is in the boat with her rifle, with woman’s best friend and a few duck decoys.
Thursday’s ad is yet another for Rheingold Beer, from 1951, and again features Miss Rheingold from that year, Elise Gammon. She’s still outside but this time she’s cooking on a cement grill, lit by paper lanterns. That’s one seriously big fork she’s wielding.
Wednesday’s ad is another for Rheingold Beer, from 1951, and features Miss Rheingold from that year, Elise Gammon. She’s on a city street, with an odd-looking hat — are those ears? — feeding peanuts to a squirrel. Is she wearing the gloves as a fashion statement or to avoid getting rabies?
Tuesday’s ad is for Rheingold Beer, from 1957, and features Miss Rheingold from that year, Margie McNally. She’s smiling widely while out in the marshes for some early morning duck hunting. It must be a cool, brisk day since she’s bundled up so warmly.
Monday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1961. The ad shows a stylish woman in a pillbox hat, looking at the camera with pursed red lips, with two six-packs of Bud cans in her gloved hands. What could be sexier circa 1961?
Friday’s ad is for Schlitz, from 1960. The ad shows a couple playing the boardgame Monopoly, and drinking Schlitz, of course. My kids have gotten into Monopoly lately, but I can’t ever remember playing it with just two people. It’s not nearly as much fun that way, so maybe that’s why they need the beer.
Thursday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1946. The ad shows a happy bride cutting her wedding cake, and is “Beyond Words.” This, despite there being words all over the ad. I especially like the ones at the bottom of the ad. “Every sip tell you what words can’t.”
