Monday’s ad is for Birra Poretti, from around 1900. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Birificio Angelo Poretti, a brewery located in Varese, Italy. The brewery was founded in 1877, but in 1982 the Carlsberg Group bought a 50% stake, which today is 75%. This poster was part of a series of art nouveau prints created by Italian artist Ludovico Cavaleri who was a fine artist first, but also worked as an illustrator and commercial artist.

And here is another version of the same poster artwork, but just the top half, suggesting it may have been in two parts, or maybe it simply folded.

The image above is probably closest to the original, but the one below shows the colors more brightly, although I suspect it’s reproduction because the detail isn’t nearly as sharp.

Tuesday’s ad is for Birra Napoli, from 1922. From the late 1800s until the 1940s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for the Birrerie Meridionali in Napoli, Italy. Originally founded in 1904, the brewery was bought by Peroni in 1929, who kept in going until they closed it in 1955. The poster was created by famous French artist Achille Lucien Mauzan.

Thursday’s ad is for Birra Livorno, from possibly the late 1890s, though it could be from as late as the 1920s. From the late 1800s until the 1940s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Birra Livorno, an Italian brewery founded in 1893. Livorno is a port city on the Ligurian Sea on the western coast of Tuscany, Italy.

I also found this second image of the poster showing very different colors.

Beer In Ads #2876: Birra Venezia

Wednesday’s ad is for Birra Venezia, from 1926. From the late 1800s until the 1940s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Birra Venezia, or beers of Venice, Italy. It was created by French commercial artist Achille Mauzan for his agency, Mauzan-Morzenti.

It appears they created a second one, too, that’s almost exactly the same except for what the man on top of the table pouring beers is wearing. The signature is slightly different, too, listing Mauzan’s agency rather than Mauzan himself.

Beer In Ads #2875: Birra Verona

January 15, 2019 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is for Birra Verona, from the early 1900s, I think. From the late 1800s until the 1940s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for C. Dobrawsky Birra Verona, or beers of Verona, Italy. As far as I can tell, Carlo Dobrawsky owned a brewery in Verona which operated under that name from 1912-1923.
